Dear San Luis Obispo Council members,
I, like many others, are very distressed by the recent information about city and county council meetings being
zoom bombed by faceless individuals during the discussion of Pride week. I am very pleased and
wholeheartedly support your decision to do away with zoom comments and encourage in person comments as
well as allowing voice messages to be shared at the meeting if received by the appropriate time. It is a great
compromise to allow for the participation of those unable to come in person.
I understand the necessity of allowing hate speech as part of free speech, but I don’t understand why it can be
done anonymously (ie, with a dark screen on zoom). It seems to me that requiring people to show their face
while giving hateful messages might encourage more civil speech. If there a reason why cities and counties
can not insist on that?
Thank you all for the great job you are doing. Keep up the good planning and execution of city goals.
