Dear ATC Members,
I'm writing to express my general support for the much needed Foothill Complete Streets Project. My
family uses the Foothill/Ferrini PHB multiple times per day to get our two children to Pacheco
Elementary. We also bike and walk along Foothill to access shops/restaurants and to get to/from Cal
Poly. It is currently stressful to bike or walk most anywhere along or across Foothill east of Ferrini.
Comments:
Prioritize road diet, quick build, protected bike lanes (east of Ferrini), and measures to reduce
auto speeds.
I agree with the recommendation to pursue a quick build approach rather than permanent
materials in order to reduce construction time and cost.
The long term improvement of creating sidewalk-level protected bike lanes is ideal in order to
allow for cyclists to pass each other. As bike infrastructure is improved more people will choose
to bike. The proposed 5 foot protected bike lanes do not allow enough space for passing.
Eliminating the east bound left onto Ferrini will reduce the stress of riding with small children to
Pacheco since Ferrini is a shared street. It is uphill during that section of road which is difficult for
young riders so they go slow which leads to drivers becoming impatient and passing dangerously.
Restricting left turns from Ferrini to Foothill will solve the problem of drivers regularly ignoring the
no-left turn signs that light up during the bike/ped signal phase.
Thank you for all that you do to improve SLO for people who walk and bike!
