Re: Item # 4a, Public Hearing Agenda – 1925 Santa Barbara – APPL-0232-2024:
June 26, 2024, meeting.
Dear Mr. Chairman,
As a local San Luis Obispo Architect who has contributed to the development of the
railroad district (design and development of 1977, 1965 and 1957 Santa Barbara St.),
I have reviewed the proposed project at 1925 Santa Barbara St. and find the following
facts, and contributing elements to be relevant and contributory to support the project:
1. The massing and site placement of the structures maintain an appropriate and
design context of conforming scale that resonates with and compliments other
structures along Santa Barbara Street.
2. The exterior character relates to a diverse and compliant expression of an industrial
railroad character fitting the intent of the established railroad district design guidelines.
3. The variation of both building placement, vertical height and roof profile make for a
diverse and variated street frontage, in scale to both adjacent buildings and the overall
street master design intention.
This project should be complimented and approved per the following motion:
Recommend adopting the draft resolution denying the appeal and upholding the
decision of the Community Development Director to approve the minor development
application ARCH-0448-2022
