Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. The proposed fee increases will exacerbate our housing crisis. Please take another look at the fee increases from a pro-housing perspective. The proposed increases are anti-housing when combined with the City’s NIMBY-driven review and permitting processes, which require too much community input and discretionary nit-picking. (As just one example, the City should not be subsidizing listing of historical designations while raising fees for de-listing.) While the City can’t directly build housing, it should continue to subsidize the building process when that process has become extraordinarily expensive due to the City’s excessive review and permitting requirements for straightforward residential construction projects. Fees for discretionary review should only be increased after the City has done everything possible to streamline permitting and review of housing projects, especially for small- to mid-sized residential and mixed-use developments. Please go back to the drawing board with a perspective more consistent with the City’s designation as a Pro-Housing City. -Myles Couch 1
