This measure would establish the Drought, Flood, and Water Resilience, Wildfire and Forest Resilience, Extreme Heat Mitigation, Biodiversity and Nature-Based Climate Solutions, Climate Smart Agriculture, Park Creation and Outdoor Access, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024 (climate bond) and, if approved by voters, would authorize the issuance of a comprehensive climate bond in the amount of $10 billion. With California already experiencing the effects of climate change across the state, long-term investments continue to be crucial to increasing the sustainability of communities and resiliency of our natural environment. The City of San Luis Obispo recognizes the state’s climate goals and seeks to advance and implement successful local programs. We appreciate the comprehensive nature of SB 867, in particular, the strategic investments into safe drinking water and drought, flood, and water resilience, as well as investments in wildfire and forest resilience, sea-level rise, extreme heat mitigation, clean air, and protecting biodiversity and promoting natural solutions. SB 867 will provide much-needed capital investments to support local jurisdictions like the City of San Luis Obispo with implementation of projects that locally will advance of Climate Action Plan, climate adaptation and resilience policies, and our Greenbelt Protection Program, while also advancing our state’s environmental goals, 30 x 30 conservation goals, and protecting communities from the impacts of climate change.
