One of the key findings from the City’s 2023 Economic Development Strategic Plan is that Cal Poly has a significant impact on the community. Cal Poly serves as a major source of higher -wage jobs, and its students play a vital role in the economy. Moreover, the university is a cornerstone in the regional entrepreneurial and business support ecosystem. There is significant alignment between the intent of this merger and the City’s own goals, particularly under Pillar 3 of the Economic Development Strategic Plan: Talent Development and Attraction. This integration also aligns with the City's Legislative Advocacy Platform by supporting regional economic activities. The expanded educational opportunities at Cal Poly through this integration will undoubtedly benefit our local economy. I am confident that this integration will create a stronger, more resilient educational framework for both Cal Maritime and Cal Poly. It will allow both institutions to maximize their strengths, seek new funding opportunities, and continue delivering outst anding educational experiences. I encourage the CSU Board of Trustees to approve this integration as well as the funding needed to make it a success, acknowledging the positive impact it will have on the City of San Luis Obispo, the region, and its residents. This partnership offers a unique opportunity to enhance education, stimulate economic growth, and cultivate a vibrant and thriving community. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Erica A.
