PROPOSER’S QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE HIVE ENGINEERING San Luis Obispo Public Works, On-Call Engineering Design Services Speciflcation 5009.2024.CE 2C Redundancy in Staff At Hive Engineering, we embrace our compact size as an asset rather than a limitation. Here is how we demonstrate effectiveness and redundancy, even within the conflnes of a smaller flrm: Direct access to the owner: You can expect direct communication with Dan Parker-King, the owner of Hive Engineering, resulting in quicker decision-making and streamlined project management. Direct communication with the owner or decision maker at a larger flrm can be difficult or limited, leading to slower decision-making processes and potential miscommunication between different levels of management. Personalized service: With a smaller team, we can provide more individualized attention to each project, ensuring that you receive the highest level of service and support. Larger flrms may have a more impersonal approach to client service, resulting in less individualized attention and support for each project. Clients are just another number in a large client portfolio Faster response times: Our small team allows us to be agile and responsive to your needs, with quicker turnaround times for project estimates, proposals, and revisions. Larger flrms have more bureaucratic processes in place, leading to slower response times for project estimates, proposals, and revisions. Cost-effective solutions: As a smaller company, we have lower overhead costs, allowing us to offer competitive pricing without compromising on quality or expertise. Large companies have higher overhead costs, which can result in higher prices for their services compared to smaller flrms, without necessarily providing added value. Specialized expertise: We have a diverse skill set and experience in various civil engineering specialties, allowing Hive Engineering to provide specialized solutions tailored to each project's unique requirements In larger flrms, employees may be specialized in only one area of civil engineering, limiting the range of expertise available to clients, and potentially resulting in less tailored solutions for speciflc project needs. Innovative thinking: With a smaller team, we can be more creative and innovative in our approach to problem-solving, offering unique solutions that go beyond the standard industry practices Larger flrms may be more risk-averse and less willing to take creative approaches to problem- solving, sticking to standard industry practices instead of exploring innovative solutions. Extensive network: Despite being a small company, we have built strong relationships with industry partners and subcontractors, allowing us to leverage a wide network of resources to meet your needs. Despite having a wide network of resources, larger flrms may struggle to maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and industry partners, leading to delays or issues in project execution. Commitment to quality: Our small team is dedicated to delivering high-quality work, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on exceeding client expectations. Large flrms may prioritize quantity over quality, potentially sacriflcing attention to detail and exceeding client expectations in favor of meeting project deadlines and maximizing proflts. Flexibility: We understand that project requirements can change rapidly, and our small team is adaptable and fiexible in adjusting to evolving project needs and timelines. Larger flrms may struggle to adapt quickly to changing project requirements and timelines, resulting in delays or inefficiencies in project execution. Reputation for excellence: Despite our size, we have built a solid reputation for delivering exceptional results and earning the trust and loyalty of our clients through our professionalism and commitment to excellence. Despite their size, larger flrms may not always have a consistent history of excellence or may prioritize quantity over quality, leading to potential inconsistencies in project delivery and client satisfaction. Coordinating curb ramp designs with existing roadways, sidewalks, utilities, and adjacent properties may limit options and provide a poor user experience. Approach Just because a design is compliant doesn’t mean it will provide a positive user experience. Hive Engineering’s design focuses on the end user and providing a positive experience. Hive Engineering regularly engages with an independent accessibility design consultant to review accessibility designs. They can provide expert insights, identify compliance gaps, and suggest improvements. We will conduct a thorough site study that considers existing conditions, topography, adjacent land uses, and pedestrian traffic patterns. We will understand the context, including nearby buildings, utilities, and roadways. Value Early identiflcation of issues by a specialized engineering consultant minimizes costly design changes during construction. A thorough understanding of the site ensures adherence to accessibility guidelines, reducing legal risks, and enhances user safety and usability. We will provide informed decision-making based on site-speciflc constraints. Proof During the Morro Bay Golf Club Accessibility Upgrade Project, the initial compliant design proposed by the architect featured multiple curb ramps in succession. Although it met compliance standards, it posed challenges for end users navigating the area. In response, Hive Engineering reimagined the space by providing a zero inch curb with parking bumpers. This thoughtful redesign not only ensured compliance but also enhanced the overall user experience. 3.
