City of San Luis Obispo Tree Committee attn; Walter Gaulr City Arborist re: removal request #0221-2024 Dear Tree Committee Members: I am hoping to influence your decision with regard to a request to remove the mature, healthy Liquid Amber at 440 pismo Street in San Luis Obispo. I am a forty-year resident of Pismo street. I walk the downtown neighborhood frequently and have a great appreciation for our "urban forest." The tree at 440 Pismo Street adds beauty, color, shade, visual relief, softness and oxygen to the neighborhood. Its size and its leaf mass help to absorb traffic sounds. In the Fall its leaves turn yellow, orange and red, adding autumn colors to the neighborhood. Also in Fall these leaves drop, requiring considerable maintenance on the part of a homeowner. As neighbors, to mitigate this yearly effort, we at 462 Pismo Street have assisted in the leaf-gathering each September. We have a leaf compactor and vacuum and help with the gathering task. This tree poses no threat to the concrete sidewalk or the overhead wires. Its removal is not necessary. Its trunk diameter qualifies it for tree committee protection. Please save this tree; it is a mature, aesthetically valuable and beneficial part of the downtown urban forest. Thank you.... Judy Carroll 462-C Pismo Street San Luis Obispo 1
