Hello San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Council Members,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my strong interest in bringing a BMX track back
to the Central Coast, especially in light of the recent closure of the Santa Maria BMX track. The growing
enthusiasm around biking, fueled by the recent popularity of BMX racing in the Olympics, highlights the
potential impact of such a facility in our community.
I recently read in the SLO Tribune about the increasing interest in establishing a pump track in the Laguna
Lake park. I see that in the agenda for September 4th, you will discuss next steps in adding a potential
bike park. Given the large and passionate biking community here on the Central Coast, I strongly feel that
a BMX track would not only serve existing riders but also attract new participants, including students
from Cal Poly, by providing them with a constructive and engaging outlet on weekends.
My father and I bring decades of experience in the BMX community, and we are both eager to dedicate
our time and expertise to making this vision a reality. With my father recently retired, he would be more
than willing to spearhead this project and offer his time as the track operator. We have the skills and
commitment to manage open track practice sessions during the week and to organize sanctioned USA
BMX races on the weekends. Our longstanding connections within the BMX community could also help
bring in professional athletes for local clinics, fostering a positive and active environment for the youth.
I would love to explore the possibility of working with the city of San Luis Obispo to make this project a
success. My father and I are ready to collaborate with the city to develop a professional and sustainable
BMX track that could become a valuable asset to our community.
I welcome the opportunity to learn more about SLO’s willingness to progress a project such as what is
being proposed, and my dad and I would gladly sit down with the council and outline how a project such
as this could be made successful. Please let me know if you have any interest, thank you.
Best regards,
Andrew
