Chair and Esteemed Commissioners,
Dan Rivoire here, former SLO City Council Member, Cal Poly Alum, local parent raising my daughters
in SLO, and Leadership SLO / SLO Chamber team member. I'm writing to you with a personal
message about item 4B before you on the 11th. With my experience serving on the City Council, I
have extremely deep appreciation for the work done by our advisory bodies and the Planning
Commission in particular. I recognize the importance of process and the weight of the decisions you
make on behalf of our community. Evaluating a Conditional Use Permit for a cannabis retailer is no
small task, and it requires careful consideration of both immediate and long-term impacts on our
community. That's why our Council established such a solid framework for these decisions.
I write today in support of Embarc’s permit application, not only because I believe in their responsible
business practices, but also because I understand their unique approach to community compatibility
and accountability. I joined their their Community Advisory Board to help steer their philanthropic
support to causes that matter to the people of SLO. It's been impressive seeing the team of
community leaders they put together in commitment to their ‘community-first model’. This board will
provide the community with a transparent window into holding Embarc accountable to the
commitments they’ve made to all of us.
Embarc has also consistently shown that they can integrate seamlessly into the neighborhoods where
they operate. Their approach to storefront design, including security measures and community
engagement, ensures that they will be a positive presence on Broad Street. Much like other operators
throughout SLO, I expect this storefront will be a net positive to the community.
In your role as stewards of our general plan, I hope you’ll consider the thoughtful planning and hours
of community effort that built the framework for approving this project and request your support in
granting them the CUP to establish operations at 2410 Broad St.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Sincerely,
Dan Rivoire
