all states in the country. However, there is hope that the situation can improve by providing
greater access to treatment for individuals with alcohol and drug use disorders.
Whereas, recovery from addiction is achievable through effective treatment, enabling
individuals to secure employment, own homes, and reunite with their families and
communities. The key challenge lies in ensuring that treatment reaches all those in need
within our community. In FY23, Sun Street Centers’ residential programs served 150 San Luis
Obispo (SLO) men, pregnant women, and single women at our different facilities in the City
of SLO, Salinas, Hollister, and King City.
Whereas, in our community, alcohol and drug use disorders affect many individuals, but
they do not have to face these challenges alone. Families are breaking the cycle of addiction
and embracing recovery through support programs and counseling services. The Men's
Residential Program at Sun Street Centers in SLO provides clients with the essential
resources, structure, and support to achieve sobriety from drugs and alcohol,
empowering them for a successful recovery. Our community appreciates those in
recovery, as well as the dedicated counselors and program staff who guide them towards
a brighter future.
Whereas, I am asking all citizens of SLO to join me in celebrating this September as National
Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. This year’s theme, Join the Voices for Recovery.
Now!, invites all of us to take immediate action to guide those in our community who need
drug and alcohol treatment toward the promising path of recovery.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Erica A. Stewart, Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo on behalf of the
entire City Council do hereby proclaim the month of September as National Alcohol and Drug
Addiction Recovery Month and encourage all residents to promote the benefits of drug and
alcohol treatment and recovery and to support community treatment programs.
