To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter today to support the RQN appeal. I am a property owner and resident
in the R-1 zone adjacent to most of the fraternities. We have experienced a recent fraternity
(Lambda Chi Alpha), just granted permission to have a house on East Foothill, standing in front
of their house with a sign saying, “You honk we drink.” This causes not only noise from honking
and yelling but dangerous driving conditions too. We frequently experience large parties with
noise from music (DJ’s and stereos/yelling/foul language) and excessive drinking with students
from these parties urinating in our driveway, walking in a zig zag in the streets (clearly
intoxicated) and it is clear these are themed parties held by fraternities from the attire worn
(Hawaiian theme for example). We are especially concerned regarding the St. Fratty’s day
events that have been overwhelming and dangerous in the past (roof collapse for example),
causing us to flee our home and this last year to temporarily fence our driveway (this did not
stop students from pushing the fence over and urinating in our driveway or throwing bottles
over the fence causing glass to break and shatter on our driveway). If there are not enforceable
rules/laws to ensure our neighborhood is not turned into a fraternity neighborhood then the
situation will only get worse.
Please hear our appeal and continue to enforce the regulation of citing and fining large
gatherings and do not allow this neighborhood to deteriorate into an unsafe and inhabitable
place to live.
Thank you for your time and hearing our voice!
Sincerely and with gratitude,
Darrell Voss
