For five years you have been aware of this Statewide issue of District Voting discussing during closed sessions with no general information provided to the residents of San Luis Obispo. You now place your final determination as to the voting process on the Council agenda essentially avoiding any citizen input. The Map is gerrymandered dividing neighborhoods to aid your desire to maintain city wide elections. There are additional minority groups in this city which were not considered including seniors, families, and owner occupied homeowners. Your desire to avoid public input which may require submitting the process for election of Mayor and council and related Amendments to the City Charter is clear. The final outcome was made by you in previous closed sessions. You have chosen to “allow” input from the residents too late based upon your negotiated settlement with timelines that threaten expensive lawsuits against the City if this settlement is not approved now. I am both disappointed and disgusted by your actions of such flagrant disregard of the fundamental principles of representation, voting rights and democracy. I support district voting and adding City Council members to represent the numerous new neighborhoods as well as those who have lacked representation for years.
