I am seeking to obtain a copy of the city of San Luis Obispo’s Noise Ordinance Laws. Looking mainly at the noise ordinance laws between the hours of 8 p.m.and 7 a.m.in the areas around Cal Poly SLO.I am interested in understanding the strict guidelines when it comes to hosting live bands on personal property between these hours. Thank you for your timely attention to this matter. Sincerely, Nicole Weaver Essay Portion: We decided to choose this agency because as we attend Cal Poly,we are now residents of San Luis Obispo and so this area and agency directly affects us.That being said,we have decided to request information on noise ordinances in neighborhoods around the Cal Poly campus between the hours of 8:00 pm and 7:00 am so that we can better understand the strict guidelines that are in place when it comes to hosting live bands on a personal property between the hours that we listed. We are hoping to receive as much information surrounding this as we can in terms of noise complaints, the guidelines themselves, any records of approved events, and anything else that we can find surrounding this topic because with there being many families living in the neighborhoods around campus,we know that there has got to be a good amount of noise complaints coming out of events such as bands performing on a personal property as well as some improvements to the guidelines that have been set in place. With the information that we have requested,we hope to get a more clear understanding of the noise ordinance laws regarding having live bands perform at houses between these enforced hours. This is important for us to note because it pertains to college students who want to host people at their personal homes.People are worried to host because they are unaware of these noise ordinance laws.We also want to make sure that in the off chance that a house is cited for being too loud, that the homeowners’rights are not restricted as stated by SLO’s laws. At Cal Poly SLO,live bands are a part of the culture and many people want to host live bands in their own personal homes.A possible news story that could come of this would be uprise in complaints that come from live bands and what noise ordinance laws say about noise within restricted hours. It would be interesting to understand whether people filing complaints are defended by the city’s noise ordinance laws. The piece might connect specific cases to individual sections of the law. This information is important for the people at our school because college students are more aware of noise ordinances so as not to get in trouble with officials. As stated above, homeowners want to be sure that they are abiding to the laws while also understanding their individual rights. This information will also be important to the families who live in these neighborhoods and have concerns about things like this happening because they will know what they can and cannot do about the situation.
