Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this proposal as a resident of this neighborhood.
I am in support of the proposed change from commercial to residential zoning. The original approval is
old enough now that it doesn’t reflect today’s development demand. I know you hear often from many
local commercial establishments that are struggling to stay open and fill tenancies. Empty storefronts
are dotted everywhere around town, including plenty just across the street at Madonna Plaza.
Meanwhile… demand for housing remains extremely high. Housing prices are at crisis levels we haven’t
seen in generations, and many people who would love to live in SLO are priced out. There aren’t many
opportunities like this left in SLO for new homes so well connected to existing services, schools, and
infrastructure.
More personally: I support additional homes at San Luis Ranch simply because I love living here. I’m able
to walk to dozens of stores or bike to work or downtown. My dog loves exploring the trails out by Laguna
Lake. I’ve met neighbors who I now call my friends. I feel lucky for my quality of life, and I hope the same
for the future residents of these 276 homes.
I appreciate your efforts and those of past City Councils to work towards a more affordable and
sustainable community. There are plenty of us whose lives are different because someone said yes to
housing.
