Subject:12/10 meeting agenda item 6c - consideration of an initiation of an amendment to
the development plan for San Luis Range

Dear Council Members:
I am a resident of the San Luis Ranch neighborhood writing in support of an initiation of an
amendment to the development plan for San Luis Ranch Lot 7 on Dalidio Drive. Given the amount of
time that has passed since the last approval in 2020, I think it’s important to revisit the best use of lot
7. With the limited housing availability and high demand for housing in San Luis Obispo, I believe it is
our responsibility to provide housing options for our community. It is inaccessible for many people
who work in San Luis Obispo to actually reside here. This results in longer commute times for
workers, higher carbon emissions due to more time on the road, and less students who are able to
benefit from our excellent K-12 education system.
The revitalization of our downtown has been an initiative for the nearly 3+ years that I have resided
here and continues to be a topic of conversation during local elections. I feel that creating more retail
space would contraindicate that effort since many downtown shops are already struggling to stay
open. I also feel it would be redundant given that we have the newly opened San Luis Ranch
marketplace. While I support a thriving local business community, there are numerous unoccupied
retail spaces in neighboring locations like Madonna Plaza and downtown, while the need for
affordable and accessible housing remains urgent.
Thank you for your consideration.
