Dear Active Transportation Committee Team, First, I really appreciate the goals, takeaways, and data within the Vision Zero Action Plan, excellent work! I’d like to make one recommendation to hopefully complement the Vision. That is, a dedicated network of urban bike / pedestrian trails through the City of SLO, with the ultimate goal of dedicated trails connecting Nipomo, SLO, and all the way to Paso Robles. These are trail that are somewhat similar to the Bob Jones trail: no motorized vehicles, no stop signs or no traffic lights, but with on/off ramps accessing major city streets using bike lanes and/or pedestrian paths. Best examples of these types of trails that I’ve enjoyed are:  Santa Ana River Bed Trail in Southern California. It’s a ~60 miles in San Bernardino to the Pacific Ocean. There is access to all the major streets, including Angel Stadium. 1 Santa Ana River Trail & Pkwy - Parks parks.sbcounty.gov  San Jose Trails in Northern California. It’s a 65 mile network of trails that can take you throughout Silicon Valley. This includes Downtown San José, San José Airport, Levi Stadium, etc… sanjoseca.gov I road my bike to work for six years using one of the San Jose Trails, the Guadeloupe Trail. The trail was a freeway for cyclists and pedestrians alike from South San Jose to Mountain View. I found that it:  Promoted safety being free from cars and motorcyclists  Increased the number of cyclist and pedestrians commuting (or exercising)  Provided a great way to avoid traffic while reducing stress  Decreased traffic and pollution To close, adding a network of dedicated trails would certainly facilitate achieving the Vision’s goal “that no loss of life or severe injury is acceptable”. Hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Ron Sexton 408.431.9175 2 965 Goldenrod Lane SLO 93401 https://pub-slocity.escribemeetings.com/FileStream.ashx?DocumentId=16300 3
