Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Active Transportation Committee, It is certainly disappointing that the planned for round-a-bout at Tank Farm / Santa Fe can’t be included at this time. While I understand that this is beyond your control, the City’s control, and even the developer's control at this time, it essentially kicks a really big can down the road. The need for that planned intersection control will grow over time but unfortunately so will the resultant backlash towards the perception that it is being done just for the benefit of cyclists when it is finally installed. (Sorry - had to get that off my chest.) You are being asked to consider a future modification to the ATP to include a two-way cycle track on the north side of Tank Farm extending to the Broad intersection. My recommendation is to not modify the ATP. Class I paths (one or two way) directly parallel to roadways with driveway crossings are not advisable. Yes, some people will ride contra-flow to the Broad intersection but since there is no plan to accommodate bicyclists from that position at the Broad intersection, I don’t believe the ATP should provide a plan to encourage that pattern. Conceptually the main reason for bicyclists to use that route on a short facility is to get from the new development to the Marigold shopping center. There is a route planned from the new development to Industrial which also would accommodate this need and doesn’t put bicyclists in an inappropriate roadway position (See Attachment A, pg. 3). The problem with it appears to be that it won’t be available until both planned developments are completed at the “corner” of Broad and Tank Farm. Therefore, I would encourage planning a temporary connection to Industrial rather than the contra-flow path along Tank Farm. Thank you for your consideration. Kevin Christian 1
