Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Council members, In advance of the City budget goal setting session this Thursday, I would like to reiterate my support for continued funding for improvements in the Broad Street Corridor area (South Street to Orcutt Road). The street is increasingly more dangerous and the new 3-story construction at at 2800 Broad St. will add more pedestrians, bikes and vehicles to the neighborhood with no safe way to cross Broad St. The primary areas of need are to provide a safer street for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists to achieve the City’s Vision Zero goals. I live on Rockview Place and there is no safe option to cross Broad St to go North-bound! As a neighborhood we are grateful for your past actions to provide funding for additional city staff and consultant support to update the Broad Street Corridor Plan. We are also thankful to you for securing a $400,000 Safe Streets and Roads for All funds grant from the US Department of Transportation for the South Broad Street project, $200,000 of which can be directed at a quick build demonstration project between South and Orcutt Road. We thank you for what you have done and ask that in the 2025-27 Budget cycle additional funds be allocated to this priority corridor for implementation of improvements that will make the road safer for all modes of transportation. As it currently stands, it is an incredibly dangerous segment of street for all of us who live in this neighborhood, with high volumes of vehicles traveling at high speeds. At a minimum, the following improvements should be made:  Post reduced speed limits for this road segment from the current 40 MPH speed limit.  Install permanent electronic speed-feedback signs along this corridor.  Restripe that roadway to narrow the travel lanes to slow traffic and create a larger buffer for cyclists.  Install additional signalized intersections between Woodbridge and Orcutt Road. I’m sure there are many other improvements that could be made which will be outlined in the updated Broad Street Corridor Plan, but these initial critical quick build improvements will greatly improve the safety of this street in the near term. Thank you Samantha Justesen Cottle 1
