Subject: Sustaining Economic Resiliency, Cultural Vitality, and Fiscal Sustainability as a Major City Goal for 2025-202 Dear Mayor Stewart and Councilmembers Boswell, Francis, Marx and Shoresman: We strongly advocate for the continued prioritization of Economic Resiliency, Cultural Vitality, and Fiscal Sustainability as a key goal for the 2025-2027 period. In particular, we believe maintaining cultural vitality is essential to the city's overall social and economic strength. The continued development of our arts district is a cornerstone of cultural vitality. A thriving cultural district attracts residents, tourists, businesses, and investors, and generates significant revenue through events, galleries, theaters, and retail and hospitality industries. Furthermore, it fosters job creation for artists, performers, and supporting professionals, contributing to a robust local economy. A dynamic arts district enhances San Luis Obispo’s appeal by attracting skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and emerging new talent seeking vibrant and inspiring places to live and work. A creative environment fosters innovation and economic dynamism. In addition, the arts play a vital role in lifelong learning by cultivating creativity, critical thinking, and problem- solving skills across all age groups. San Luis Obispo has a rich legacy of support for economic resiliency, cultural vitality, and fiscal sustainability. Commitment to these values has helped create our treasured downtown and a wonderful community. As 40+ year residents who raised our children here, we know firsthand the power of the City’s vision. We have personally experienced the positive impact of cultural arts in particular: in our longtime business, our volunteer efforts and our everyday lives. The arts are central to SLO’s unique character. The continued success and development of our arts district in turn drives economic prosperity and cultural vitality. We strongly encourage ongoing investment and support in this area. Sincerely, Dave & Maggie Cox 1659 Frambuesa Drive San Luis Obispo, CA 93405 1 2
