Dear SLO City Council,
My name is Emma Roeller and I am a City Planning student at Cal Poly. I am a member of Cal Poly
Urbanists, a student club dedicated to promoting bike and pedestrian safety.
I am writing to express my support for the Grand Avenue Pilot Program. As someone who lived off Grand
and would bike on the street daily, I can't express how the improvements have made me feel so much
safer as a cyclist and pedestrian. The extra buffer encourages cars to slow down and be aware of the
presence of cyclists. As someone who also drives in the area, it is also reassuring as it is easier to see
where bikes will be.
I hope that the City of SLO takes measures to make this pilot project permanent. In the future, having
more physical barriers like reflective flex posts would be beneficial, because currently drivers still ignore
the paint and cut corners when turning onto Southbound 101.
I would like to sincerely thank you for taking the time to read this letter and hope you consider these
words of support.
Best,
Emma Roeller
