Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Council and other staff members, PLEASE STOP MESSING AROUND WITH OUR STREETS! What is being thought of on Lower Higuera is so bad. Yes, it's very sad and upsetting that lives have been lost by those on bikes. But it's very possible that some of the blame MUST be put upon them. I can't begin to tell you how many times, I and others I've talked to been cut off by people on bikes that think THEY own the road. So many don't use hand signals, no warning, don't have lights, ride 2 or more abreast, ride the wrong way, don't stop or walk across any type of an intersection, (doesn't matter if there is a light there or not and what color it is), ride both ways on the sidewalk, etc. AND then they get mad at whoever they're offending! They yell, cuss you or give you the evil eye or finger or a fist shake. What happened to the rights of drivers as tax paying citizens whose taxes PAY for our roads? Anymore, in SLO, we don't have a voice! With what's been done already to the downtown corridor between the parking rates and street 'improvements', I only go downtown anymore if I have to go to the bank. I used to go at least once a week, now maybe once or twice a month, at best. And Chorro? Nope, go the long way up to Santa Rosa if I need to go to somewhere on Foothill. Waste of time, gas AND emissions. As a driver, I now consider Chorro to be very dangerous to a driver and avoid it. And, I KNOW I'm not the only one either who used to us it, Marsh or Higuera to go places in the downtown corridor. But I do travel on S. Higuera twice a day, at least 5 days a week, since I live on it. It's bad enough turning left into Creekside Mobilehome Community where I live from S. Higuera & Tank Farm if I go to Food 4 Less or Trader Joe's and don't walk if I'm getting too many items to carry. 9 times out of 10, someone will run the light coming from Tank Farm turning left onto S. Higuera or cause a gridlock and one has to wait through another light sequence before being able to turn into our community. Over the years, I know of at least 2 mobilehomes that have been hit by someone turning left at that intersection. But that's a whole OTHER story. 1 Higuera from Madonna to LOVR is an extremely high traveled road and should any other building on Prado, Margarita or Tank Farm happen, it will only increase the auto traffic. The housing on Buckley has already increased it. Please stop thinking about only those on bikes and listen to the whole community that you are paid to listen to when you are discussing things that come up. In many opinions, 'Staff' doesn't always look at every detail, outcome and angle. You as council members, need to put feet on the ground and study these areas at different times of the days BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISIONS that could upset a huge amount of the community you swore to help. Sincerely, Lisa Leutwyler 2
