Dear All,
I am a resident of Chumash Village, 3057 S. Higuera. We have one road in and out of our senior
mobile home park. I have been here since March 2017.
I don't believe in the road diet concept the city's Active Transportation staff put forth. I
believe the Higuera Street corridor that they want to reduce to protect bicyclists is in
deference to recreational bicycling, not to elementary school students and workers residing in
the city. Therefore, I disagree that it supports safety and equity for this group, and certainly,
it does not for the seniors living at Chumash Village.
Recreational bicycling is fine for those who are capable, but their needs should not be elevated
above the residents living and working along the Higuera corridor where the the diet is
anticipated.
I urge you to reject the diet concept, at least as it is currently preferred by your staff.
Sincerely,
Sharon G. Whitney, #96 at 3057 S. Higuera.
