Dear City Council,
I'm writing to express my enthusiastic support for the Higuera Complete Streets project. I encourage you
to direct staff to:
1. Keep the full road diet from Bridge to Margarita
2. Keep protected bike lanes using concrete where possible and flex posts as a bare minimum.
3. Prioritize people who walk and bike at intersections such as Higuera & LOVR
I commute to my office at the Pacific Coast Center by bike on the section of Higuera between Marsh &
Madonna by bike 3-4 times per week. This section of Higuera is stressful without any protection and
there are regularly cars parked in the bike lane. Having protection here will greatly reduce stress and help
keep drivers from blocking the bike lane.
I travel to the Elks several times per week along Higuera by bike and in the summer I take my kids to the
Elks by bike to use the pool. Making a left onto Higuera from Elks Ln is stressful and unsafe having to
cross 4 drive lanes. The road diet and traffic signal here will make a big difference.
My kids attend Central Coast Gymnastics 3 days per week on Zaca Ln off of Higuera. We currently drive
there b/c it's stressful and unsafe. The addition of protected bike lanes will make it more attractive for
people to bike there.
Thank you for your consideration and all that you do!
Sincerely,
Jesse Englert
