Hello City Council Members -
I support the Higuera Complete Street Project, especially the protected lanes, as I would love to be able
to ride safely from South street to Trader Joe’s or the Public market.
But I’m also writing because I coordinate the new Bike SLO County program Cycling Without Age, a one-
of-a-kind project that provides free, slow-paced, volunteer-piloted trishaw rides for home or senior-
facility bound older adults. This program reduces social isolation and improves quality of life,
encouraging community engagement and getting outside.
With the Higuera protected lanes, we would be able to reach socially isolated seniors who have
requested rides in Silver City Mobile Home Lodge and residential care facilities in Margarita
neighborhood.
Thank you for completing the North Chorro Greenway - we have already taken over 60 older adults on
rides in the neighborhood and into downtown/the Mission using the protected lanes. We look forward to
growing the program in our city along South Higuera!
