Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Mayor Stewart and Members of the Council, When reading the staff report the first thing that came to mind was the recent fires in LA County and the difficulty those residents had when trying to evacuate. We have had a number of road diets within the city and I'm not sure that executing a road diet on Higuera is a prudent thing to do. Over the years we've had several fires in the hills surrounding the city which threatened or damaged homes. There have also been warming fires that got out of control, one I witnessed was by the creek behind a home on Richard Street. Please take into account the area in which we live, the increased density, the additional developments, and the fire hazards various areas of the city may have to face. Before approving this and future road diets, an assessment of potential routes of evacuation from various parts of the city needs to be made, followed by the selection of the routes designated for evacuation. Losing grant money now is worth not losing lives in the future. We can always apply for another grant. Please choose Alternative A: No Road Diet. In addition to bullet points 2, 3 and 4, a sixth consideration should be included, i.e., to provide capacity for evacuation during natural or man-made disasters. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Sandra Rowley SLO resident 1
