Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Council, I am writing today to express my support for item 7A, the South Higuera Complete Streets Project. I ask that the council prioritize this project as it will provide a safer, more accessible corridor for all. For the past 1.5 years, I have commuted 3 - 5 days a week on my bicycle on South Higuera from Bridge Street to Vachell Lane. Even as an experienced cyclist, I regularly feel unsafe and frustrated at the vehicle drivers who speed, are using their cell phones while driving (it's easy to see when you are walking or riding a bike), driving through crosswalks when pedestrians are crossing and unsafe left and right turns from roads and driveways. People who choose to walk or ride bikes should not consistently be in danger of injury or death because of the choices that vehicle drivers make, but that is the case in this corridor. I am appreciative of the new and current infrastructure — including the downtown protected bike lanes, the North Chorro Greenway, the protected bike lanes on Santa Barbara Street and Railroad Safety Trail extension — that is helping keep all members of our community safer. I urge you to continue this holistic view of our community and support the full South Higuera Complete Streets. Thank you. -- Chris McBride San Luis Obispo resident 1
