Subject:Bike lanes on S. HIiguera

Dear SLO City Council,
Over the past 10 years, the City Council has replaced driving lanes with bike lands. Traveling down
Higuera in the downtown area is complicated because delivery trucks have to park temporarily in one of
the 2 lanes open. And if you are heading toward Broad, the left lane is a left turn only. This has caused
major disruption throughout SLO and yet I rarely see a bicyclist using the FULL lane given to them.
It would be a mistake to do the same thing on South Higuera where the residential and commercial traffic
is significantly higher. Had there been a study done? Has anyone watched to see how many bicycles
travel on S. Higuera versus how many cars? How many bicycle accidents have occurred there? I would
like to see the data that justifies the cost and the disruption to traffic flow.
Don’t forget that someday Prado Road overpass will be complete and the traffic will increase further.
Please use common sense and choose to make SLO a town that works for the drivers as well as the
bicyclists.
