Dear Mayor Stewart and Members of the Council,
Having looked over the presentation you will receive tonight regarding Safety Enhancement Zone Preparations for the St
Fratty’s Day celebration(s), we noticed one very disturbing (but easily fixable) part of the plan.
With all the land area, sports fields, and stadiums - even a rodeo arena, Cal Poly intends to hold an event “to draw
students out of neighborhoods” in their Sports Complex Lower Fields, an area that’s adjacent to the Alta Vista
Neighborhood. An early-morning event with amplified sound! How does this mitigate the disturbance to the
neighborhood? There will still be loud music and loud voices audible to much of the neighborhood.
Since there are also parties on St Fratty’s Day, especially in the Alta Vista, Monterey Heights and Foothill areas, it would
be an easy walk from the Lower Fields to join one, or several, of the house parties that will certainly occur.
Cal Poly needs to select a different site. A site that is well away from the city’s neighborhoods. Additionally, the amplified
sound should be positioned so that it will not cross Cal Poly’s boundaries.
Thank you for your time and consideration of these over-abused neighborhoods.
Sincerely,
/S/
Sandra Rowley
