I’m writing to say No please. Don’t eliminate car lanes. Don’t use concrete for bike lanes. The proposals will create
more problems and a disaster when we have to evacuate.
It’s nice that there is a small, coordinated and vocal group of bicycle supporters in our town. But please think
about the demographics and lives of the majority of SLO citizens. The majority do not ride bicycles. I’m a senior
citizen who couldn’t ride even if I wanted to. I’ve observed that bike lanes around town are completely empty most
of the time. Meanwhile drivers are squeezed into one lane until we inch along. Sitting in a car, looking at empty bike
lanes is ridiculous.
Using permanent concrete to protect bikes is dangerous and expensive. Having only one lane just backs up more
traffic.
