Dear City Council Members,
I wish to thank the San Luis Obispo City Council for helping to preserve La Loma Adobe, possibly the
City’s second-oldest structure, and for supporting its rehabilitation as a symbol of our unique history and
blending of so many cultures. Maintaining this symbol of the City’s historic stability – and the City
Council’s foresight regarding the future – needs to continue.
I hope that the City Council will choose to include in the next budget cycle the funding for continuing
progress that the community is anticipating. It is di?icult, in the midst of competing demands on limited
funds, to choose the Important over the Urgent, especially when the importance will be measured by
future generations who aren’t witnessing your dilemmas.
The progress of stabilization and rehabilitation of this rare structure has reached a crucial point. As a
Friends of La Loma Adobe board member, I know how close we are to being able to accomplish the goals
we and the City have worked so hard to achieve. Your first budget inclusion is getting us to the “shovel
ready” stage. Now the “shovels” need to be able to actually accomplish the stabilization, the
foundational components in the preservation of the nearly 250-year-old home.
th
It would be fitting to be able to celebrate the upcoming 250 anniversary of our country by digging in that
“shovel” in earnest. Funding in the next budget cycle would go a long way to accomplishing that.
Thank you for having gotten us so far,
