Hello,
I am providing comment on February 25, 2025 item: STUDY SESSION: REVIEW THE ADMINISTRATIVE DRAFT OF
SLO TRANSIT'S SHORT-RANGE TRANSIT PLAN (Estimated Time: 90 Minutes).
---
The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Airports is committed to demonstrating its commitment to reducing
our carbon footprint. We are currently embarking on a sustainability and decarbonization plan to identify
implementable road maps towards that commitment. As the entry and exit for over three quarters of a million
passengers over a year, we have a unique opportunity to showcase our region’s commitment to environmental
stewardship through providing a robust alternative transportation program.
As part of our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, we are exploring ways to expand alternative transportation to
and from the airport, including ways that do not currently exist, such as the concept of a “microtransit” option. Our
ongoing WiFi survey of passengers routinely highlights a gap in reliable alternative transportation service during
the nighttime hours when the bus pickups have ceased and rideshare opportunities are scarce. A microtransit
option may provide our customers with an option when one often does not exist.
Airports have had discussions with City staff about exploring a low- or zero-emission microtransit concept that
reaches the airport during the nighttime hours. With shared interests in promoting economic vitality of the region
while demonstrating environmental stewardship, the County’s Department of Airports would like to underscore
our commitment to fleshing this concept out further with the City. We look forward to exploring opportunities for
alternative transportation growth and innovation that will ensure passenger, employee, and community safety and
vitality.
Warm regards,
Annie
