Dear San Luis City Council Members,
th
RE: Tuesday, March 4 City Council Meeting - Item 6.a Appeal of Waterman Village Planning Commission
Approval
My name is Terri Main and my husband and I have lived in San Luis Obispo county for since 1996. For the past 20
years we have owned and operated The Main Company Inc., and worked throughout the county as a residential
and commercial general contractor. Two of our favorite San Luis Obispo city projects include the remodel of the
thth
Parish Hall at Mission San Luis Obispo and the 7 and 8 Grade Old Mission School classroom annex on Palm
Street.
I had met Anne Wyatt in 2019 when SmartShare put on a Tiny Home Expo at the Madonna Inn and I volunteered to
help. That was a great event and I found Anne to be extremely creative, capable, and committed. My husband
and I have a lot of experience with the high cost of housing and building in our area and were very interested in how
we could help bring more a?ordable housing options to the community. A short time later in early 2020 Anne
called and told me that the city owned a property at 466 Dana Street with an historic adobe and was looking for
community partners to propose a project for the site and she wanted to create housing. She described the
concept of a tiny home village and I asked what I thought. I immediately asked how I could help. For nearly 5
years I have worked with Anne and many other community members to get the project through entitlement
process. We have volunteered hundreds of hours to get community and neighborhood input, hired architects,
engineers, consultants, and done everything that the city has asked to create a good project that restores the
adobe, honors the wishes of the donor who gifted the property, and creates needed housing in one of the most
una?ordable cities in the state.
Thank you for this opportunity to communicate my support for the Waterman Village project and I encourage you
to deny the appeal that is before you on Tuesday. My husband and I are ready to help the City make this project
happen. It's a unique opportunity and should not be delayed any further.
Regards,
Terri Main
The Main Company Inc.
