Dear Mayor Stewart and Council:
Thank you for making renter protections a priority via the "Housing and Neighborhood Livability –
healthy, safe, and affordable" Major City Goal.
As a member of the SLO Tenants Union, I'm asking that you now program sufficient time and funds for
staff to:
Develop comprehensive rental registry
Update our health and safety standards
Close loopholes in the Tenant Protection Act
Protect renters from no-fault evictions
These are four examples that can improve tenant protections in SLO. However, if staff find more tenant
protection opportunities during these initiatives, I encourage the City to explore crucial updates to tenant
protections. Improving tenant protections and affordable housing intersects with many other City Goals
like Climate Action, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Homelessness Response. I look forward to
hearing updates from the City on this matter and our continued collaboration to make sure SLO is a
livingable, inclusive space for all.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration,
Jenn Fields
