States, affecting 1-in-36 children, is an urgent public health crisis that demands a national response;
and
WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (Zeta), is dedicated as a premier organization that
provides noteworthy contributions in education, research, and funding for persons of color who
are impacted by the autism spectrum disorder.
WHEREAS, while there is currently no identified cause or cure for autism, Zeta is devoted to
promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals
with autism and their families.
WHEREAS, In light of the growing impact of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the need for greater
awareness, Zeta’s vision is to improve the lives of people of color affected by ASD through
championing autism awareness, education, advocacy, and funding. Zeta implements the
Extraordinary Power of S.H.E. worldwide through social, health, and economic justice programs.
WHEREAS, the Pacific Region of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated proudly implements the “Let’s
Talk About It: Parent Support Group Series” to uplift the autism community and provide a safe space
for parents, caregivers, families, and individuals who are influenced by someone on the Autism
spectrum. The Xi Xi chapter is honored to participate in the annual observance of Autism Acceptance
Month and World Autism Awareness Day, fostering greater awareness, understanding, and inclusion
for individuals with autism.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erica A. Stewart, Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo, on behalf of the entire
City Council hereby recognize April 2, 2025, as World Autism Day and recognize April 2025 as Autism
Awareness Month in the city of San Luis Obispo to raise public awareness of Autism Spectrum
Disorder, as well as to increase knowledge of the programs available to support autistic individuals
and their families.
