Holy Month of Ramadan ProclamationWHEREAS, Ramadan is observed by community members of San Luis Obispo who practice the Islamic faith; WHEREAS, Ramadan, started on March 1st and ends on March 30th and is celebrated annually by millions of Muslims throughout the United States and over a billion Muslims across the world; and WHEREAS, during Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, engaging in acts of self- reflection, spiritual growth, and community service, embodying the values of compassion, generosity, and unity. WHEREAS, the City of San Luis Obispo is a diverse community that values and celebrates the rich cultural and religious heritage of its residents. WHEREAS, the Muslim community in San Luis Obispo has made significant contributions to the local economy, education, healthcare, and social services, enriching the fabric of our community. It is fitting to recognize and honor the contributions and traditions of our Muslim neighbors and friends. WHEREAS, Islamic traditions and values provide balance and peace and serve as an inspiration and reflection for the millions of individuals who look to the teachings of Islam for guidance; and NOW THEREFORE, I, Erica A. Stewart, Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo on behalf of the entire City Council proclaim March 1st through 30th as “RAMADAN” in the City of San Luis Obispo.
