Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. ________________________________ Dear City Council, Respectfully, please do NOT convert Tank Farm Rd from four lanes to two (aka road diet) nor expand the width of the bike lane along Tank Farm. Please send the project back to the City planners and ATC to adjust accordingly. There are far more important areas in SLO that need safety attention as the data shows in the appendix of the Vision Zero Action Plan. High Injury picture below also reinforces this point. Road diets 1) reduce traffic capacity, 2) increase congestion, 3) block traffic with buses (and delivery vehicles) 4) resulting in more pollution. We experience these problems in downtown SLO, Johnson and Grand, a mess. Further, 280 units will be added at Tank Farm & Broad while Reghetti Ranch is continuing to add units. We need more capacity, not less! We have more than enough bike lanes throughout SLO. The problem is the receive very little usage. City of SLO has 20% bike lane usage model. That means 2 bikes for every 5 - 8 cars and buses, or 100s of bicyclists. We’re luck to see a couple at any given time. SLO needs a bike trail that runs through SLO, akin to the Bob Jones Trail. San Jose has an excellent network! Small examples in SLO are along California to Cal Poly, Madonna Inn, and Sinsheimer Park. Again, please do NOT implement a road diet nor expand the existing bike lanes within the Tank Farm road project. Request that safety be prioritized per the data in high accident areas, keep road capacity intact, use existing bike lanes, and save our tax dollars. Sincerely, Ron Sexton 965 Goldenrod Ln SLO CA 93401 1 2
