Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Good morning,  We want to be sure the Council understands the sense of urgency among renters, as housing costs continue to skyrocket while living conditions deteriorate.  We look forward to the study sessions on renter protections and a Rental Registry.  Sometimes, studies are where good policies go to die. We’ve all seen that happen.  Let’s not study this problem to death. Let’s ensure that we not only research and learn, but promptly adopt and implement appropriate policies.  It’s not enough to be compassionate. We have to act!  Please program sufficient time and funds for staff to study renter protections and a rental registry, but also to adopt and implement effective pro-renter policies.  We know what the big issues are. In addition to a comprehensive rental registry, we need to: o put the brakes on skyrocketing rents o update health and safety requirements o close loopholes in the Tenant Protection Act, and o protect renters from no-fault evictions. 1
