Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. San Luis Obispo City Mayor & Council Members Renters are almost half the population in the state of California & more than half in many jurisdictions. Renters are the backbone of the workforce & are the ones most becoming homeless. Student, famlies & senior homelessness has & continues to rise annually. It's important to understand your specific jurisdiction's rental market & a rental inventory registry is a tool to gather data to base potential policies on, including rent stabilization. An example of data a registry will provide is how much corporate ownership is in your market that can manipulate the "market rate" with the sheer quantities they own & how policies as well as fees they put in place become standard practices. One of the worst offenders: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/04/15/ftc-sue-greystar-apartment-fees-lawsuit- renters/83084327007/ While we all understand the need to build more housing that may stabilze rents eventually we also know that will not happen fast enough therefore there must simultaneously a move to stabilize rents until then. The longer this is put off the more renters leave &/or become homeless. Please prioritize this issue as a city council & address this issue asap. Thank you for your consideration of this important topic affecting everyone directly & indirectly. Stay Well & Best Regards, Esther Malkin #RentersVote (831) 238-4765 Ca.
