Subject:Tank Farm Rd Paving Project
The notice of the rescheduled public input opportunity for the road reconfiguration between Broad St and
the RXR overpass on Tank Farm arrived today. I risk my life every time I walk to the Marigold Shopping
Center and every time I drive through the Poinsettia/Tank Farm intersection, so I've thought about this
quite a bit.
One thing that will immediately improve driving safety for cars (due to cars being much lower that SUVs
or trucks) is to greatly reduce the hedge/plant height on the south side of Tank Farm directly across from
where the alley behind Von's intersects Tank Farm. The hedge currently dangerously hides many
speeding vehicles that remain hidden even when a car on the southerly part of Poinsettia pulls into the
crosswalk to improve site distance to turn towards Broad St. Please lower that hedge to 12" or so.
I am very troubled by the plan to move the crosswalk at Poinsettia and Tank Farm from the west to the
east side of that intersection. That would require pedestrians to be exposed to turning high speed traffic
three times each direction to get to and from the shopping center for six exposures to traffic where
currently there are only two risky crossings.
The HASLO apartment complex for housing families is very close to the intersection as it is currently
configured. If the crosswalk was on the east side all the children and folks with baby strollers and dogs
would have the previously mentioned six street crossings rather than two as they cross. Greatly
increasing the risk of tragedy.
Please do not change the crosswalk to the eastern side of the Poinsettia/ Tank Farm intersection.
I will likely not be able to attend the May meeting. Please make this part of the official record.
