Subject:Tank Farm Road
Greetings,
I’m writing because I received a postcard from the city that leads me to believe the Improvement Project is
threatened. I’ve read the so-called “option” to the plan that was presented to the community back in November,
and am very disheartened to see that consideration is being given to ignoring the public safety needs of our
neighborhoods in favor of cars. I’m really curious to know the motivation behind the potential changes to the
plan, because I doubt it has human lives as a priority or “Goal Zero.”
We cross Tank Farm daily to walk our dogs on the wonderful trails in the Southside neighborhoods. The trails
and parks on the Southside become off limits for those on the Northside who fear of being hit by speeding
traffic, especially children and the elderly. It hardly seems fair that a large part of the community has to be
afraid to cross a highway to use public resources.
The number of vehicles that routinely use Tank Farm does not justify four lanes, however having four lanes
does encourage speeding. You should have proof of that from the metering that was performed last Fall.
Lastly, the comment in the Alternate Plan that mentioned the concern for emergency evacuation is a joke.
Having one mile of four lanes which bottleneck into two lanes on either end is not going to help anyone
evacuate.
Thank you for listening to my concerns. If the great City of San Luis Obispo (which we recently moved to for its
reputation of walkability and bike-ability) truly cares about human lives and quality of life, they will adopt the
original plan.
Sincerely,
Beverly Hanson
