Subject:Tank Farm Road
I am opposed to the proposed changes to Tank Farm Road, namely to reduce the number of lanes.
There is a lot of building going on around there (and has been going on there for some years
now). This is creating more traffic, and proper planning would mean we accommodate those
vehicles by not shrinking the road to one lane. This proposal will only lengthen commute times,
causing more pollution as people sit in traffic. This latter point would appear to be in direct
conflict with the city's stated goals to reduce air pollution.
The use of bike lanes by commuters is extremely low, from what I have seen. Any reduction in air
pollution as a result of biking will more than be offset by the traffic congestion.
Lastly, when the homes in the French Park area were developed in the 1980s, I imagine the
developer had to pay fees and real construction costs for the roads. No doubt the city required the
road to be two lanes. That was smart. If the road is now going to be shrunk, could the city possibly
refund some of the fees he paid, which were ultimately passed on to the home
purchasers? When they were built, the homes were serviced with a two-lane road. It seems
grossly unfair to change this now, especially since so many more new homes have been and are
being constructed in the area.
I strongly urge you to reject this proposal. I do not live in that part of town and thus have no personal
interest or ax to grand over this, but I am concerned that we are making the city less livable by
constricting traffic, especially for no good reason.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
LESLIE HALLS
