Dear City of San Luis Obispo Construction Board of
Appeals,
I write to request that the Construction Board of Appeals, consider a 180 day delay in
the adoption of Resolution No. CBOA-01-25 entitled “A Resolution of the Construction
Board of Appeals of the City of San Luis Obispo, California, denying the Appeal of
Patrick Smith, on behalf of Laurel Creek, LP, and upholding the Notice & Order,
Determinations, and Findings to support declaring the building at 1150 Laurel Lane a
dangerous building".
Immediately upholding the Notice and Order dated March 10, 2025, requiring vacation
of certain units and securing them against entry would be extremely detrimental to the
SLO City Church, their employees and congregation members. Closing the facility
immediately allows no time for the church to secure alternate meeting arrangements
1
and will immediately cease our ability to meet in person, a vital portion of our ministry
and any ability to support the congregation and the city and county at large.
I have attended church in that facility since the occupancy permit was received from the
city. I have not experienced any safety issues during church attendance. The
main issue I have seen was with the entrance to the parking lot. This is an issue that I
do believe could be safely resolved temporarily in order to allow the church to continue
to meet and to take advantage of significant tenant improvement investments the
congregation has made to the building while alternative locations are developed.
I respectfully request your consideration of a 180 day delay on closure of the facility.
Sincerely,
Greg Holmes
SLO City Church Congregant
