It was impressive that Mr. Otto and another ATC member took the time to come speak in support of the project and to urge safety enhancements, such as a pedestrian refuge. Having lived on Poinsettia for 33 years, I have the lived experience of the dampening effect the speeding traffic on Tank Farm Road has had on our neighborhood safety and happiness. It has meant that people habitually drive rather than walk - to Vons, to the bus stop or to visit friends across Tank Farm Road. We got so used to "no one listening" that people just gave up. But that changed several years ago when City Engineering did listen and improved the pedestrian crossing at TFR and Poinsettia and lowered the speed limit to 35. It was "half measures" they could do cheaply, and the efforts did not do much to slow drivers but it did make pedestrian crossing at Poinsettia somewhat safer, and they did promise that when repaving was budgeted, more improvements could be implemented. That time has arrived, and with the super support of your committee and an effort by concerned citizens to write in (70% supporting Alternative 1) and 14 speakers showing up at the meeting last night (100% in favor of the road diet) , the Council voted unanimously to approve Alternative 1. I hope that Council member Shoresman's recommendations to go further will be heeded, and I hope your committee will keep a watchful eye and continue to advocate for as many safety measures as can be managed within the City's means. Thank you for all the time and study you devote to making San Luis Obispo safer for all modes. I know that serving on an advisory body can be a thankless task, so it is more important than ever to let you know how much you are appreciated. Sincerely, Jackie Parker 4423 Poinsettia St. SLO 1
