Jones Carpenter's Rexall 717 Marsh Street-- 1 San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Subject: Signing for 717 Marsh Street Carpenter's Rexall Dear Mr. Jones: As you know, the City of San Luis Obispo adopted a set of sign regulations intended to make San Luis Obispo a better place to live. Several signs existing at that time failed to conform to these new standards. To make sure that the owners of these signs were able to realize the Full value of their signs, the signs were allowed to remain in use for periods ranging from one to ten years prior to their removal. These periods were assigned on the basis of the signs' values. According to our records, the freestanding (Sign 1) and wall (Sign 2) signs fall in the category of signs whose amortization period expired in September 1987. This means that your signs must be removed or otherwise made to conform with the Sign Regulations now. If your signs do not conform to current standards and you want to leave them the way they are, you may ask the Architectural Review Commission (ARC) to grant an exception to the ordinance. The ARC may allow you to maintain your present signing if it can be shown that special circumstances or features of your site or signs warrant such exception to _.-- the rules. ARC applications fees are $25.00, and the forms are available at the Community Development Depaitment. If you have any questions, come to the Community Development Department or call 549-7170 for information. Planners are prepared to assist you with the information on the kinds of signing allowed and what you must do to conform. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Barbara Ehrbar Community Development BE:ja sp Rexall Sign from the a: Rexall parking lot. Note wall Texture.. 52 0.
