Subject:Fire Hazard Severity Zones
Good Morning,
I just completed the survey associated with the revised Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
My biggest concern isn't the map, rather it is how to successfully and safely evacuate in the event of a
fire.
Evacuation has become especially problematic given the increase in the number of housing units and
the construction of high-density buildings that the city has permitted without infrastructure improvement
off of major routes in the past 5+ years.
The number of housing developments and high-density projects have increased significantly off of Broad
St. / 227, Orcutt, Buckley Road, Prado Road, South Higuera, etc.
Major thoroughfares are already a nightmare before & after work.
What are the plans to evacuate residents safely?
And, what are the plans to increase the number of lanes on major thoroughfares to accommodate safe
evacuation?
What we've seen instead are projects that decrease the number of lanes and, as a result, decrease safe
egress out of the area.
Thank you.
