Dear Commissioners,
My name is Jakob , and I served as the President of the Delta Chi Fraternity at Cal Poly for this past year.
I apologize for not being with you in person, as this is finals week and I will be in a final during the time of
the commission meeting.
I want to express my strong opposition to the proposed revocation resolution of our Conditional Use
Permit, and to thank you for the thoughtful attention you’ve given to this process. I especially appreciate
the care with which you raised concerns last week about health, safety, and neighborhood welfare —
concerns that we share and are actively working to address.
Delta Chi is more than just a student residence — it is a space where young men are growing, learning,
and becoming accountable leaders. Academic excellence is at the core of our fraternity’s values. We
consistently rank among the top fraternities on campus for GPA, and that’s no accident. We prioritize
study groups, peer mentorship, and a culture of mutual academic support. These are not just internal
benefits — they reflect the kind of contribution we want to make to our community.
We also understand that with privilege comes responsibility. That’s why we’ve taken steps to strengthen
continuity and accountability within our organization. We've brought our Alumni Board of Trustees and
Housing Corporation into the process to ensure long-term support and oversight. We’ve elected next
year’s leadership and have already begun a values-based transition. Our goal is not to be temporarily
compliant, but to be sustainably constructive partners in this community.
Revoking our CUP would move us — and likely other chapters — outside of a framework where
expectations, oversight, and accountability are possible. Instead, we ask that the Commission view this
as an opportunity: to lead a conversation on modernizing and improving the CUP framework so it can
better serve both neighborhood needs and the positive potential of student organizations.
We are ready and willing to work with you, and we respectfully ask for the chance to continue growing in
partnership with the city.
Thank you again for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jakob Zuckermandel
Immediate Past President, Delta Chi Fraternity
