I lived with my family for 44 years on Albert Drive (Alta Vista Neighborhood one block from Cal Poly)…1978-2002. While the noise and parties; and general lack of respect by the encroaching short-term students towards the long-term residents escalated during that time, there are two specific issues that drove our family from our “forever home” to the south side of town. 1. With the overcrowding by students in the other houses on Albert Dr., there was also a huge increase in numbers of cars parking on the streets…as many students were living in converted garages; and the visitors to the neighborhood took up more spots...thus causing un-safe driving conditions. 2. One night there was a party in the house across from our house (in the house once occupied by my parents, Wes and Doty Conner). The party overflowed from the house into the street, and I went outside to ask the partiers to take it back inside. One of the non-resident partiers threatened to “beat” me up and to mind my own business !!! Good-bye Albert Drive! This was an extremely emotional experience, as I had lived in the “party house” in the ‘60’s while a student at San Luis Obispo High School and first year Poly student. The City and CP Administration need to come to grips with getting the bulk of their students (not just the Frat’s and Sororities) on Campus. Sincerely, Terry W.
