Neum Fire Chief Battalion Chief SUBJECT: Donation of ruvrplus Protective Clothing CAO RECOMMENDATION: Adopt motion declaring Firefighter protective clothing surplus, and authorize the Fire Chief to donate clothing to the T,:mpleton Volunteer Fire Department BACKGROUND: The Fire Department replaces 25% of all Firefighter protective clothing each year. In the past, this clothing has been sent to auction with other surplus city property. As this clothing is not suitable for any other use, it does not sell at the auction and is discarded. Templeton Volunteer Fire Department needs protective clothing for its Firefighters. They have requested a donation of any surplus protective clothing from the City of San Luis Obispo. They have rgrced to indemnify the City against any claims if someone is injured wearing this clothing. A letter will be received from the department setting forth their indemnification understanding prior to any clothing being donated. Alternatives: 1. Declare the clothing surplus and donate to Templeton Volunteer Fire Department. 2. Deny the request, and send the clothing to auction. Pros and Cons: Alternative Number 1 eliminates items going to auction that may sell, although unlikely. Concurrences: City Attorney Fiscal Imnact: None Recommendation: Adopt motion declaring the Firefighter protective clothing surplus.
