Would it also be convenient to stop this tree from producing oxygen? Would it also be convenient to stop this tree from providing habitat? Would it also be convenient to stop this tree from providing shade? Would it also be convenient to stop this tree from providing visual beauty? You can see from the picture (even you didn’t go out and look at the tree, like I did) that there is MINIMAL damage to the sidewalk; that can be repaired and roots shaved very easily. Insect infestation? I'm sure our highly-trained and qualified “arborist” can either tell the owners how to deal with that, or the city can deal with it themselves. Droppings on the sidewalk? Give ma a break. I’d be glad to introduce the owners to a BROOM, if they're not aware of its existence and usage. Sewer? That is NEVER an excuse to remove a tree; as the committee knows, any roots in a sewer are caused by the sewer line already having a break, not from the root CAUSING the break. It is obvious that this tree has not been maintained: there are too many limbs up through the middle of the shape that ought to have been trimmed long ago. Do NOT allow this wonderful tree to be removed for the owner’s “convenience”. And, don’t give me that claptrap about a “replacement”. This city is replete with “replacement trees” (Read: TWIGS) that are 3/4” in diameter and will be “mature” in 30 to 40 years. This city has already slaughtered enough trees: Dalidio; Monterey and California; soon-to-come across the street from 2932 August. Don’t let laziness and neglect cause the slaughter of yet another mature tree. 1 Will Powers, Ph.D 2
